More Than a Thousand Words

Sometimes a picture is worth much more than a thousand words. Especially when those words are taking up valuable radio bandwidth.

This is what it looks like when you use the enterprise version of Tablet Command during a 3-alarm vegetation fire with structures burning.

This event happened last week at my home department, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and it’s a perfect example of why visualizing resources and assignments on an incident map is a no brainer for the fire service.

I dare you to accurately write these resources down faster and I dare you to tie up a tac channel or a command channel to ask for this resource list again. And again. And maybe even one more time.

Knowing WHO you have to deploy at your emergency is critical. ESPECIALLY when the incident is scaling up.
